Aquapac has selected world-class sailor, oceans advocate and plastic pollution expert Emily Penn to be the Aquapac Outdoor Champion for 2013.
The Aquapac Outdoor Champion award supports those who devote their lives to making the world a better place, highlighting the blend between conservation and recreation. As recipient for the 2013 award Emily receives £1000 cash from Aquapac in recognition of her achievements and to support her future endeavours.
Emily is passionate about conservation and has endlessly campaigned to promote the use of alternative fuels and now organises and leads expeditions to tackle challenges facing the marine environment. Emily learnt to sail in challenging conditions from a young age and spent time at the helm in four different oceans which prepared her well for her RYA Yachtmaster exam and was awarded Yachtmaster of the Year by HRH Princess Anne. She’s currently running Pangaea Explorations – taking scientists and filmmakers to remote parts of the planet via the sailing vessel Sea Dragon.
Emily is all too aware of the importance of using the right equipment while out at sea and uses an Aquapac 100% waterproof iPad case to keep her primary navigation device dry on deck. She also uses the iPhone case and hard lens camera case from the company’s submersible range to keep her equipment dry.
“We are delighted to award Emily Penn as our ‘Aquapac Outdoor Champion’. Her efforts to clean up the environment and educate others are truly inspiring,” comments Tim Turnbull, CEO of Aquapac. “Emily exemplifies our Outdoor Champions programme – people who strive to help others to connect to the great outdoors and instill a greater conservation ethic in all of us.”
