LifeStraw: Doing Well By Doing Good

Spring client, LifeStraw, has been distributing aid to Hurricane Dorian victims. Managing Director, Alison Hill, personally travelled out to the Bahamas as the water situation began to look dire for those living there. Dorian is said to have been the most powerful tropical cyclone on record to strike the Bahamas, and is regarded as the worst natural disaster in the country’s history. LifeStraw will be providing lifesaving filters to the communities in need giving them access to clean drinking water.

This work is in addition to LifeStraw’s Give Back programme – where for every product purchased, LifeStraw provides safe water for an entire school year. It’s a project implemented directly by LifeStraw. By the end of 2019 LifeStraw will have provided one year of safe drinking water to more than 3.3 million students, helped 1870 schools and delivered 12,220 water filters.

LifeStraw Home is their newest product to hit UK shelves in January next year. The Home is a water pitcher that you fill up with tap water, stick in your fridge and it’ll filter all the baddies out (microplastics, bacteria, parasites, heavy metals) but keep the goodies such as potassium, sodium. 


Did you know that we could be ingesting five grams of plastic every week because of polluted water. A recent study commissioned by the WWF entitled ‘No Plastic in Nature: Assessing Plastic Ingestion from Nature to People’ was carried out by the University of Newcastle in Australia. It suggests people are consuming around 2,000 tiny plastic particles each week – adding up to approximately 250 grams a year. With the largest source coming from drinking water.

Job Description:

The Administration Assistant will manage the product inventory, handle travel arrangements for the team, pull together presentations on PowerPoint, maintain filing systems, answer the phone, schedule appointments, basic office maintenance and will keep the wheels of Spring PR Ltd well and truly oiled.

Typical Duties:

  • Pull together the monthly reports for clients on PowerPoint
  • Book travel
  • Maintain the product inventory
  • Organise couriers and deal with the post
  • Order product from clients for various tests by the media
  • Help out at events and festivals
  • Answer phones and liaise with clients and the media

Requirements

  • At least one year’s experience in an administrative-based role
  • Organisation skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good level of grammar, spelling and writing.
  • Ability to work independently and multi task in a team-oriented environment.
  • Driving Licence
  • Cake baking skills and a love of the outdoors is preferential!

A couple of months ago, I decided that it was time for a change and made the huge decision that after four years it was time to leave my flat, friends and job in London and move back to the countryside and closer to family.

I studied Fashion Promotion at University and, after accidentally falling into PR whilst interning, have worked at Fashion PR agencies since graduating. Coming from a PR background and having always loved the outdoors and exercise, I was fairly certain that Spring PR was going to be the perfect fit for me and after meeting Stephanie and the team I knew that I was going to enjoy working here.

The Launch of Hike Bike Paddle

The Youth Adventure Trust charity sets a new challenge for the outdoor industry.

‘Hike Bike Paddle: Snowdonia 2019’ has been dubbed the ultimate in team building and networking away days for outdoor brands. The challenge will see teams of co-workers compete in the great outdoors whilst supporting the Charity’s work with vulnerable young people.

Taking place on 30th September 2019 in Snowdonia, outdoor brands can enter teams of between four and six people who will get the chance to take part in an 18km hike or trail run, 50km off-road bike ride and 2km paddle on a self-built raft.
